George E. Edwards Fellow for International Human Rights George E. Edwards is an expert on international human rights law in the global arena. Professor Edwards is also an expert on the role of civil society in the inter-governmental human rights arena, and on international legal education and how it promotes public diplomacy and human rights. His decades of human rights and international education experience includes facilitating law student work at human rights organizations in over 55 countries primarily in the developing world, pro bono legal services to defendants at international tribunals such as the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the Guantanamo Bay Military Commissions (where Professor Edwards was tendered as an expert witness), and advocacy before the United Nations about human rights violations in many different countries. Garofano Senior Fellow for Defense John Garofano is Dean, Academic Affairs at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where he oversees the education of some six hundred U.S. and international resident officers and civilians and more than four thousand distance education students. First elected in 1985, he served for 26 years in the South Australian Parliament holding a variety of Ministerial positions.
