The Center for National Policy, in partnership with leading experts from industry and academia, held meetings across the United States to develop recommendations on how to build a more resilient energy sector that can help power America's economy in the years ahead. From safer development of secure sources of energy, to enhanced conservation measures to building resilient energy infrastructure that can withstand disruptions, CNP's Powering America's Energy Resilience provides a blueprint for policy makers and industry leaders looking for the next generation of ideas to promote American energy security.

Some of the findings in Powering America's Energy Resilience include:

  • Policymakers must plan for the continued expansion of domestically produced natural gas as a significant source for meeting America's future energy needs
  • Upgrading the electric grid is critical to building a more secure and resilient U.S. energy sector
  • Policymakers must not overlook the critical role that energy efficiency can play in advancing energy resilience

Some of the recommendations in Powering America's Energy Resilience include:
  • Encouraging natural gas development with national standards supported by appropriate monitoring and enforcement capabilities
  • Reducing the vulnerability of U.S. refinery capacity to catastrophic disasters
  • Launching a cyber-security initiative to develop a detailed profile of physical cyber risk to the electric grid
  • Preparing a formal assessment of the national and homeland security implications associated with increasing development of North American and Arctic oil and gas resources
  • Developing a comprehensive North American Energy Resilience Plan
